Atlas Chair
The Flatpackable Zero-Hardware Puzzle Chair

While studying classic Danish furniture design at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad, I was inspired to combine the form of Arne Jacobsen's Series 7 Chair with the interlocking function of a Hanayama 3D Puzzle. The result was the Atlas Chair.

Early in the design process, I focused on the user's experience when assembling a chair. I studied joints in classic Danish furniture that create structural integrity using the pressure of interlocking pieces rather than relying on hardware. From there, I integrated those principles to form the chair's structure. I iterated and explored many different avenues for how this concept could take shape, prioritizing simplicity and ease. Finally, I refined each piece to ensure a pleasing form to the intended function.
